Preah Vihear(ខេត្តព្រះវិហារ) is a province in the north of Cambodia and far about ~294km away from Phnom Penh capital and borders to the Stung Treng province, Kampong Thom province, Siem Reap province, Oddar Meanchey province, the Thailand border, and the Laos border.
Preah Vihear is a province in the northern part of the kingdom of Cambodia and is a potential tourist destination in the country. It has a town called Preah Vihear and its symbol Neak Pean Roundabout.
Previously, the province had the town called "Tbeng Mean Chey" but later changed to "Preah Vihear". Regarding the provincial name, according to some documents, it is said that the name of the province was taken by the name of the temple of Preah Vihear, which is a World Heritage Site.
Geographically, this province is located in the hilly, mountainous or vast geographical areas, surrounded by large forests, which are wildlife habitats. In addition, the area is rich in natural mineral resources and historical sites, especially ancient temples. Preah Vihear Province borders to Siem Reap and Oddar Meanchey in the west, to the East against Stung Treng, to the North to Thailand and Laos, and to the South to Kampong Thom Province. The province is approximately 301km from Phnom Penh, from Neak Pean (Preah Vihear Province) to Wat Phnom (Phnom Penh). The province has one of the important rivers in the country, Stung Sen.
This province has been potential for agriculture and especially for tourism. Basically, people in the area are engaged in farming, hunting and fishing. Tourists in Preah Vihear province are very famous for tourists, especially international tourists, because the province is rich in World Heritage site and has many attractions of the great temples left behind by the early Khmer ancestors.
If we talk about the types of tourism, this province includes: natural and recreational tourism. However, cultural tourism is the most popular in the area, because the province is rich in ancient temples and temples in the mountains. Natural tourist sites include: mountains, waterfalls, rivers, and natural landscapes, which are interesting places for all tourists, there are also many recreation establishments to cater to the needs of leisure travel.
