Battambang is a province in the northwestern part of Cambodia and is the second most populous province in Cambodia. It has a town called Battambang and its symbol Lok Ta Dombong Khieu Nhung Roundabout. Battambang city is located along the Sangker River and has many French colonial structures of building and is becoming a national heritage that has received a lot of attention from local and international tourists. The town is beautiful, with antique buildings, a market that gathers businessmen from all over, as well as many services such as hotels, guesthouses and restaurants that are warm welcome to all visitors.
Battambang Province borders Pailin and Chanthaburi (Thailand) in the west, Siem Reap and Tonle Sap in the east, Banteay Meanchey in the north and Pursat Province in the south. The province is about 290km away from Phnom Penh, starting from Battambang round about to Wat Phnom (Phnom Penh).
Basically, the province is dependent on rice cultivation, planting of fruits, and fishing. The province has great potential for agriculture, industry and tourism as the province has a large area of land with natural treasures, culture, flooded area, and many ancient temples built on the mountains, which is a potential tourist attraction.
For types of tourism, this province includes: natural, cultural, and recreational tourism. However, cultural tourism is the most popular in the area because the province has many famous temples, museums and important historical sites. And for natural places include mountains, waterfalls, rivers and natural landscapes making a good attraction for tourists. In addition, there are a number of recreational tourism destinations such as zoos, farms, dams, resorts next to river which all designed to cater to the needs of leisure travels.
