8 World Heritage Sites in Cambodia

Until now Cambodia had eight World Heritage Sites, separated into three physical cultural properties and five intangible cultural characteristics.

1. Angkor Wat(Tangible cultural heritage)

On December 14, 1992, Angkor Wat (tangible cultural heritage) was inscribed on the World Heritage List. The Angkor Wat temple is around 8 kilometers from the Neak Poan roundabout in Siem Reap city, Siem Reap province. 

Angkor Wat is the world's most important historical monument. The Angkor Wat temple is a stunning structure that is regarded as Cambodia's icon and masterpiece. Angkor Wat is a significant tourist attraction in Siem Reap, attracting millions of visitors from around the world each year. 

Angkor Wat Temple or it's often called Prasat Angkor Wat is located in Siem Reap City, Siem Reap province, and far about ~ 8km away from Neak Peak Circle. Angkor Wat is one of the greatest historical sites in the world. This Angkor Wat is a fantastic architecture that is regarded as a symbol and a masterpiece of Cambodia. Angkor Wat is an important tourist destination in Siem Reap, attracting millions of national and international visitors each year.

2. Royal Ballet(Abstract): 

Inscribed on the World Heritage List on November 7, 2003.

3. Theatrical shadow or theatrical(Abstract)

Theatrical shadow or theatrical(abstract): Inscribed on the World Heritage List on November 25, 2005.

4. Preah Vihear Temple(Tangible cultural heritage)

Temple of Preah Vihear (Rupee): Inscribed on the World Heritage List on July 7, 2008. Preah Vihear temple is located in Svay Chrum village, Kantuot commune, Choam Khsan district, Preah Vihear province and is about ~ 115km from Neak Poan roundabout. Today, most of the shopkeepers and locals often go up the mountain on the C1 road because it is easy to travel. The temple of Preah Vihear is a historical site and was built during the late 9th and early 10th centuries.

5. Teanh Prot Game(Abstract)

Teanh Prot Game(abstract): Inscribed on the World Heritage List on December 2, 2015, but Cambodia is one of four countries with similar games, including South Korea, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

6. Chapey Dang Veng (Abstract)

Chapey Dang Veng (abstract): Inscribed on the World Heritage List on November 30, 2016. This Khmer classical musical instrument 1 is on the list of intangible heritage in urgent need.

7. Sambor Prei Kuk Temple(Tangible cultural heritage)

Sambor Prei Kuk Temple(tangible cultural heritage): Inscribed on the World Heritage List on July 08, 2017. The decision was made at the 41st meeting of the World Heritage Committee in Krakow, Poland. Sambor Prei Kuk temple is located in Sambo village, Sambo commune, Sambo district, Kampong Thom province and is about ~32km away from Domrei Choan Khla. 

Sambor Prei Kuk temple is divided into 4 major groups: North Temple Group, Kandal Temple Group, South Temple Group, and Krol Meas Temple Group. Sambor Prei Kuk temple has interesting small and big trees, plants, and animals. On the other hand, Sambor Prei Kuk temple attracts many foreign and local tourists to visit, which helps to improve the living standard of the people living in that area and also helps to promote Khmer culture even more. 

Sambor Prei Kuk temple is the most important historical tourist site for Kampong Thom province, which was inscribed on the World Heritage List on July 08, 2017. Many ancient temples were built in groups during the late 6th and early 7th centuries BC, made of large bricks, sandstone, laterite, and large natural forests covered the temple. Classic. 8. Svay Andet Pagoda Puppet Theater(Abstract)

Svay Andet Pagoda Puppet Theater(abstract): Registration of World Heritage List on 28 November 2018 at the 13th Meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission for the Protection of Intangible Heritage of UNESCO in Port Louis, Republic of Mauritius. The puppet theater is on the Intangible Heritage List.
